Em 1972, uma parte de seus docentes se desvinculou do mesmo dando origem ao Departamento de Ci\u00eancia da Computa\u00e7\u00e3o e Estat\u00edstica.<br \/><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\"><br \/>Atualmente, o Departamento conta com cerca de 70 professores e \u00e9 respons\u00e1vel pela oferta de disciplinas de matem\u00e1tica para cursos das mais diversas \u00e1reas: Ci\u00eancias Biol\u00f3gicas, Engenharias, Ci\u00eancias Exatas e da Terra, Ci\u00eancias da Sa\u00fade e Ci\u00eancias Sociais Aplicadas. Al\u00e9m disso, \u00e9 o respons\u00e1vel pelos cursos de Bacharelado e de Licenciatura em Matem\u00e1tica e, em parceria com o Departamento de Ci\u00eancias da Computa\u00e7\u00e3o, pelo curso de Bacharelado em Matem\u00e1tica Computacional. No n\u00edvel de p\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o, oferece o Mestrado, o Doutorado em Matem\u00e1tica e um curso de Especializa\u00e7\u00e3o. Desenvolve ainda v\u00e1rios projetos de extens\u00e3o em diversos n\u00edveis destinados \u00e0 divulga\u00e7\u00e3o da Matem\u00e1tica, \u00e0 produ\u00e7\u00e3o de material did\u00e1tico e ao interc\u00e2mbio com professores da Escola B\u00e1sica. Para o desenvolvimento dessas atividades, o Departamento conta com o Laborat\u00f3rio de Ensino de Matem\u00e1tica (LEM) que disponibiliza material did\u00e1tico para aplica\u00e7\u00e3o em sala de aula e promove oficinas tem\u00e1ticas para alunos e professores das escolas.
